About Us

Community led Safe Space Inner West was set up in August 2021 and opened its door at The Little BIG House in Summer Hill in Oct 2021. We were part of a pilot project put together by Roses in the Ocean and in July 2022 they secured seed funding to continue the project for the next 3 years. In that time we we starting to connect with community and forge relationships with other service providers in the area. By the end of our first year, we had seen over 300 guests in the Safe space and had over 460 people attended our events. In Jan 2023 we were registered as a charity called Sydney Community Safe Space Inc. to help us grow to other areas. We are dedicated to opening a further 2 spaces in 2023. As part of our mandate, we don't pay wages or salaries but at times have to contract admin on an ad hoc basis to help us to make sure our volunteers receive the necessary training and support. In Jan 2023 we also started the Safe Space Community Educate program where we will hire facilitators to run Mental Health First Aid, Safe Talk and other courses we believe would benefit and support the carer, friend or colleague of someone who is in distress. As of April 2023 we now run a second Community Safe Space from eastward Senior Citizens Hall in Coogee every Thursday and Friday night from 6-9pm.
